RPL for the Catering industry launched in 7 January 2013. Vocational Training Council (VTC) is appointed as the assessment agency (AA) until 30 June 2028.

Objectives of RPL mechanism:

  • Recognize industry practitioner’ experience, knowledge and skills acquired at the workplace.
  • Facilitate individuals to set clear directions for further training without starting from scratch.
  • Encourage industry practitioners to pursue continuing education and lifelong learning.

Transitional period for the Catering Industry (Western Cuisine) will end on 6 January 2028.  Applicant could opt for documentary proof for application of level 1 to 3 RPL recognition

Application Procedures

Minimum working experience requirements for applications of each level
QF Level Years of working experience
Level 1 1 year of relevant working experience in the Catering industry
Level 2 3 years of service in the Catering industry (Include certain period of relevant experience)
Level 3 5 years of service in the Catering industry (Include certain period of relevant experience)
Level 4 6 years of service in the Catering industry (Include certain period of relevant experience)

Submission of application to AA

Documents for applications:

  • application form
  • proof of working experience
  • assessment fees
Applications processed by AA

AA verify the documents and arrange assessment test

Transitional period for the Catering industry (Chinese Cuisine) ended on 6 January 2018.  Applicatant has to go through assessment test for all levels of RPL applications.

 *Transitional period for the Catering industry (Western Cuisine) will end on 6 January 2028.  Applicant could opt for documentary proof for application of level 1 to 3 RPL recognition.

 

Apply for reimbursement of assessment fees

Statement of Attainment (SoA) will be awarded to applicant who has successfully passed the assessment test.  Applicant could apply for reimbursement of assessment fees to Qualifications Framework Secretariat.

RPL Qualifications

Currently, there are a total of 58 RPL qualifications available for application by catering practitioners in both Chinese and Western Cuisines, ranging from Level 1 to Level 4, under the RPL mechanism.
