SCS for the Automotive Industry consists of 260 Units of Competency (UoCs) which are distributed into the following 5 major functional areas at various levels.
SCS-based / SGC-based Course
SCS-based/SGC-based courses refer to education and training courses that adopt the SCSs or Specifications of Generic (Foundation) Competencies (SGCs) as the main basis for curriculum design. The contents and learning outcomes have to meet the performance requirements as set out in the relevant UoCs under the SCS/SGC. Furthermore, the structure and design of SCS-based/SGC-based courses are governed by the principles stipulated under the Qualifications Guidelines issued by the Education Bureau.

SCS-based Training Packages
Using selected units of competency (UoCs) which correspond with a job role in the industry, an SCS-based Training Package outlines the essential elements for a learning programme, offering for reference the contents of learning, assessment guidelines, as well as supporting and reference materials.
Automotive ITAC will explore the need of developing SCS-based training packages to encourage enterprises and education and training providers to develop courses more closely aligned with the needs of industry.
