Vocational Qualifications Pathway (VQP) and Competency Requirements of Related Job Posts in the Manufacturing Technology (Tooling, Metals & Plastics) Industry
The Manufacturing Technology (Tooling, Metals & Plastics) ITAC launched the Vocational Qualifications Pathway (VQP) on 28 August 2026. The VQP sets out the competency requirements of key job posts across 10 functional areas and maps them to the relevant Units of Competency (UoCs) in the Specification of Competency Standards (SCS). It serves as a reference for employers, practitioners and the industry, and encourages education and training providers to develop VQP programmes that meet the competency requirements and demand of the relevant job posts.

Manufacturing Technology (Tooling, Metals & Plastics) Specification of Competency Standards
The Manufacturing Technology (Tooling, Metals & Plastics) ITAC developed the first edition of the Specification of Competency Standards (SCS) in 2015. In response to the industry’s continuous development and transformation, the ITAC completed a review and revision of the SCS and published the second edition on 28 August 2026, to address changing market needs and support the industry’s ongoing development.

Training Packages
The Manufacturing Technology (Tooling, Metals & Plastics) ITAC will explore the need of developing SCS-based training packages to encourage enterprises and education and training providers to develop courses more closely aligned with the needs of industry.
