Consultation session for the draft SCS for Fashion Industry
The Fashion Industry Training Advisory Committee (ITAC) had completed the draft of the Specification of Competency Standards for the Fashion Industry (Draft SCS), and kicked started a three-month industry based consultation on the Draft SCS on 1 May 2018.
A consultation session was jointly organized by the Fashion ITAC and the Qualifications Framework Secretariat (QFS) so as to introduce the major contents of the Draft SCS to industry practitioners, and enhance their understanding of the application of SCS and benefits that can be brought to the industry. More than 100 industry practitioners from trade associations, professional bodies and trade unions of the local fashion industry participated the event on 15 June 2018 at Clothing Industry Training Authority in Kowloon Bay.
In his speech, the Chairman of Fashion ITAC, Hon. Felix Chung, said that the Fashion industry in Hong Kong hoped that the platform of QF would provide practitioners with more pathways to acquire qualifications, and facilitate education and training providers developing more practical and relevant training courses, with a view to enhancing manpower quality and competitiveness of the industry in the long run.
In addition to the introduction on QF concepts and application of SCS by the QFS representative at the consultation session, the Sub-Convenor of SCS Drafting Sub-committee, Mr. Arkin Ng, and the SCS professional writer presented the major contents of the draft SCS and the methodology of its formulation. Furthermore, the Vice-Chairman of Fashion ITAC, Mr. Lawrence Leung and the representatives of employers, employees and training providers shared their experiences in the application of SCS and their expectations of the implementation of QF in the Fashion industry.
The consultation session was summed up by the Convenor of Consultation and Promotion Sub-committee, Mr. Yeung Fan, who believed that the introduction of the Fashion SCS would help the Fashion industry enhance its manpower quality and competitiveness. He called on his peers to actively give comments to the Draft SCS by filling in and returning the questionnaire to QFS during the consultation period (i.e. by 31 July 2018).
